It has an American Shank.. Any horn that Warren Deck built with Mienl is using an American shank.

There seems to be variations in shank size from time to time. I no longer assume that any M-W or B&S has a certain mouthpiece receiver size.

To add a smidge to the general knowledge base I will tell you that both my PT15 and PT6 have that save receiver design that bloke has just described. Essentially meaning that there is no venturi into the leadpipe. The mouthpiece just sits where it sits for all practical purposes IN the leadpipe.
Both my horns are around about a decade old now. Also, I've compared my PT6 to recent vintage 6s and note that the receiver is larger on the new ones. Conventional wisdom suggests that all 6s use a euro shank but I showed my horn to Alan Baer and after some twiddling with a micrometer and doing some mental math he declared it an american shank receiver. The new 6s are euro(larger).
I would *love* to hear what the likes of Baer, Gerhard Meinl, Matt Walters, and Rudy Meinl have to say on this topic. At one point Baer rattled off some numbers involving thousandths of an inch and was firm that only Laskey and his mouthpieces had the properly sized shanks. Seems that there is tremendous variation in this often ignored area of design and there is likely an optimal gap that can and should be established. Apparently that gap should be set at .XXX"!
Some in the know willing to share?

It's 50/50 that an American shank is going to bottom out in the original receiver from my 2165. Even for American shank pieces that fit, the shank goes in 1.6 inches. G+W American shank mouthpieces do not fit at all.

My name for the receiver Bloke described is "reverse gap." A lot of PT's have it, maybe all of them. The Meinl Weston tubas I've measured are all over the place in receiver size. Many are considerably bigger than what I consider "European shank." I've even seen some older ones with no taper at all, just a straight tube for a receiver.
Hopefully some sort of standardization will take place some day.

Hi there,
I play a MW 2000 and use the Baer CC piece. I started with the original piece with a euro shank and it fits perfectly. I then moved to the MMVI model and now have a problem as i think its an american shank and not a euro because the reciever swallows it!
A little insulating tape makes it work fine but I think im going to have to spend more cash to get the euro shank MMVI. Great mouthpiece that seems to work for me.
Another option is the PT 48. Big though!!
24 AW, Wick 3L or 2L are completely useless for me. Its a very personal thing though.
