Pretty sweet. I want one. What is it? Looks like some kind of melton with a fifth valve added. Pretty good tuba player too.

Is this not a Melton 2165z 6/4 CC? A rotary version of the 2165 which never seems to have gone into production. The tubist is Jozsef Bazsinka of the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
There used to be a picture on the old Melton website. Where did this larger picture come from?
I wonder how it plays? I guess pretty similar to a Neptune?

Poor Rocky.
It just wouldn't have been the same to say, "While My Tuba Gently Weeps."
I always thought it would have been great had the bass line on "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" been doubled on tuba, especially since the song is in Bb.

I was wondering the same thing. The best color picture I had in my archive of this horn was this one. Being a 2 time (and present) 2165 owner, I would really like to play that horn.Neptune wrote: Where did this larger picture come from?

I have just received reply from Mr. Bazsinka regarding the tuba. He says;
it is the only one Warren Deck model with rotary system (a little bigger tubes without the "ring" in the bell). It was made especially to me for 17 years before (my prototype). And it is the best instrument what I ever try in my life.It's working very well. It has dark, rich, fat sound in every range.

if you think looking at it is impressive, get some Budapest Festival Orchestra recordings and listen to him play it...
The Bartok Kossuth, Concerto for Orchestra, and Kodaly Hary Janos are fantastic. Same with the Mahler 2nd, and 6th. But he REALLY rips on the new Mahler 4th.

My favourite recording with that orchestra is Liszt Faust Symphony conducted by Ivan Fischer on Philips with prominent enough tuba that it was even complimented in the Gramophone review! As that was recorded in 1996, I guess the 2165z was used?
