Hi Everyone,

I am headed to NYC next monday-wednesday. Any notable events involving tubas going on? I have seen many interesting events, but still I have not found anything of particular interest to a tubist, that statement of course not including all of the other fascinating musical events going on.

NY Chamber Brass - SUNY Purchase ensemble in residence performing Sir Peter Maxwell Davies Brass Quintet . Mr. Kyle Turner , will have his hands full with what is regarded to be be one of the most challenging pieces ever written for small brass ensemble...its on 4/26 @ 8pm- Merkin Concert Hall in Manhattan...

I was in attendance at this quintet concert and it was quite an amazing event. This was the program:

Carlo Gesualdo Two motets

Sir Peter Maxwell Davies Quintet Opus 100


It was a long program and kudos go to each of the quintet members for stamina, artistry, ensemble and preparation. Kyle played with secure tone and great sensitivity. The Call and Laudes were played on a large PT CC horn and the Gesualdo and Davies were played on a PT F horn. The F horn was particularly effective on the Gesualdo, the part requiring long sustained tones in the upper registers. A very surprising and unusual composition.

All in attendance were mesmerized by the Davies Quintet. Very effective and masterfully played, with great attention to detail. It was especially gratifying, considering the length and difficulty of the preceding pieces. Bravo everyone!
