Josef Rieder wrote:What is/are your favorite band piece(s)? Orchestral transcriptions do not count.
I always get a kick out of playing Grainger (except for Irish Tune, which is nice, but I'm a little tired of it for now).

Flashing Winds by Van der Roost has become one of my new favorites, but I conducted it as part of my TA duties so didn't get to play it.

October is a beautiful piece. Played it back in college about 10(?) years ago. Would love to play it again.

October is amazing! I played it in the interlochen symphonic band last summer, truly epic.

Holst, Grainger ( Shephards Hay ) , American Variations . Haven't played it, but heard Godzilla Eats Las Vegas performed and it seems like a lot of fun...recently enjoyed Paris Sketches by M. Bilik - :tuba:

Armenian Dances I and II.

Fairest of the Fair

Dublin Dances

Some good stuff here. I'd love to play Holst Suite in Eb, however.

Gregson did use the same name, Wade. Thank you for letting me know! :)

Here are some off of the top of my head.

Music for Prague 1968 and Apotheosis of the Earth--Karel Husa. For those who think that all works for band are, well, too band-y. These two pieces are great, and they were both originally written for concert band.

Fifth Symphony--Alfred Reed

Lost in the Funhouse--Jeffrey Haas

Et exspecto resurrectionem mortuorum--Olivier Messiaen. I know it's a longshot, but it fits the description, (the piece is written for winds, brass and percussion.)

Meditations on the Writings of Vasily Kandinsky--Daniel Bukvich. Great piece for solo tuba and band, doesn't seem to get much recognition.

I really dig "Meditations" and "Summer Dances" by Brian Balmages. Gorgeous music and super tuba parts.
