WTK: Light, hard case for Conn 56J

Post by Steve Inman »

What do you recommend for a hard plastic, foam-lined case for a Conn 56J? Wheels would be a bonus, but not required.

I'm looking for light weight -- but more substantial than my Altieri bag.

Alternate suggestions for truly armor-plated gig bags also welcome.

Thanks,

I believe that the "Conn" case for this is made by MTS. I have the equivalent for my King 2341. It's not too heavy as hard cases go, has wheels, and has protected the horn well. I haven't seen any hard cases that are much lighter.

The most protective gigbags that I have seen are the Dolly bags, but they can take quite a while to get, Cronkhite bags, and Winter/Soundwear bags. The soundwear and Dolly bags have an extra "stiffening" layer that provides a little extra protection.

Not knowing how big your tuba is, have you considered one of those wheeled garbage cans, well padded with foam rubber? It's not a flight case but it might work pretty well for what you want.
