Here's a link to an Arkiv CD recording of Mehta and New York doing Symphonie Fantastique. Sam Pilafian is playing 2nd tuba with Warren playing 1st tuba.

I listened to this again today. It's remarkable... I can listen to this and still get goosebumps every time. That was one hell of a performance! The brass is the best I've ever heard recorded.

Out of interest how does this compare to the legendary recording of Prokofiev 5 by Previn/LSO with John Fletcher?

Out of interest how does this compare to the legendary recording of Prokofiev 5 by Previn/LSO with John Fletcher?
They are both excellent. The Masur 5th is coupled with excerpts from Romeo & Juliette. I love all of theose old Previn/LSO recordings, including the complete ballet recording of Romeo & Juliette and Holst Planets.
