Has anyone played a new or recent B&S PT-605? I am trying to sort out one of these vs. a Miraphone 191, and I don't know where I might find both in one place. I would love to try a Piggy too, and don't know where to do that either.

Yeah I've played one that is about 2 years old. I prefer it wayyyy over the Miraphone. The PT605 is by far one of the best current production BBb's. To me, it seems a lot more free blowing than a 191..with less resistance. I could really crank out the pedals on the PT. The PT-605 is an EXCELLENT BBb.

CMI - Custom Music International has them marked down and on sale. You too can have a B&S 605 BBb tuba for only $5999, act now while supplies last.

Yes I saw that, I didn't know the 'normal price'. There is at least one 191 used for about the same money.

A few years ago I got to try a 605 when Jeff Rideout came through town on the way back from San Antonio to Michigan. I was very impressed with the consistency, intonation and tone color from register to register of the tuba. As a poster above said, it is more free blowing. If I were twenty years younger, I'd get one.

I also posted a couple of threads asking for more info about the tuba some years back, if you can find them with the search engine.
