See if Walter Sear's name is on it anywhere. He imported them back in the 1960's, and sold them out of his shop in Manhattan. Howard Johnson still uses one. Sear also rescued the Cerveny company from near-extinction. His whole fascinating story was written up in the journal of the New York Brass Conference two or three years ago. You can get the year of production by the markings on the bell. Below the stamped name and information, there are some symbols:

1) A letter WITHIN a star… (A = 1901 to Z = 1926)
2) A letter BELOW the star…. (A = 1927 to Z = 1952)
3) A “dot” ABOVE a letter… (A = 1953 to Z = 1978)

Yes, I know that these are old posts. My teen son just bought one of these tubas, and I looked long and hard to get info on it. I was kind of proud to have found the dating system on this model!!

I saved it to iBooks on on my large iPad (I need large for any kind of reading), and the result showed up a tiny thumbnails in the upper lef corner of each page. Didn’t look promising, so I was very surprised to find out that their resolution is so high that zooming each thumbnail gives sharp and very readable pages. Good!

Side note -- how do you pronounce "Mahillon"? Rhymes with "Dillon"? Or is that just how an American reads a foreign name?

In my transcrition ee indicates the sound, but it should be short.

Not many people here in the US would pronounce it correctly or would recognize the name if it were pronounced correctly, but Walter did try to do so.

The term of ’mahjong’ is pronounced similarly by Danes and by Chinese, so likely also by Americans.

Mahillon sounds very much like mahjong, only there is a very brief ee before the -jong syllable.
