A friend has a vintage (5-digit serial number) Conn Eb tuba, 16-inch bell, 3-valve top action.
He's currently using a bass trombone mouthpiece (that is the receiver size). Intonation is poor.
Can anyone recommend a more suitable mouthpiece for "this old Conn"?

I use a Denis Wick 2 with that tuba with good results. (It must be a 2, not a 2L to properly fit.)

I've used a Bach 18 to a 30mm contrabass trombone mp with pretty good results. Try a JK contrabone mp- Dillon's has them for around 50 bucks.

Wick 3, if the 2 doesn't give good intonation. Depending on the bore and bugle profile, sometimes the eefer needs the funnel of the three to tame the tone, sometimes the definition of the 2 is needed. Also, Mike Finn might just have a couple of MF4's with a small shank left. Really consistent from register to register.
PT will make any of their mouthpieces in a small shank, but it is special order.
