I love my Bayamo and replaced a Monette 98 and a Tilz 10 with it on my Rudy. I'm looking to replace my Monette 94F with a Matanuska soon.
Pros: great sound and great articlulation. Low notes pop out without effort and the high notes are great (more the Rudy than the mouthpiece).
Cons: the shank tip is extremely thin and sharp. I'm always afraid I'll bend it, but I keep it in a Milnarik pouch (worth the $25, BTW).

If I remember correctly, Klaus is very knowledgable about backbore and throat, and how changing them affects response. I don't know if he is reading the BBS right now though.cktuba wrote:I have had very good results opening the throat up to 11/32" on a DW1L and a SHII. I know that a certain mouthpiece maker, who shall remain nameless, has made some modifications ( though I don't believe it was opening the throat to 11/32" ) to a certain model that are fantastic and really fill a gap quite well.
On intonation tendencies, Walter Lawson, who is a custom french horn maker, has made inroads in leadpipe design, using tapers within the leadpipe to get the bugle in tune. His horns are excellent, and many people put his leadpipes on other horns.

I have said it before here on Tunenet, and I'll say it again. The Giddings and Webster mouthpieces are the best lip huggers I have ever played through. Everything they claim on their website is right on, and maybe even under-exaggerated. I use the Bayamo on the Yorkbrunner. It has quickened the response significantly and gives me a full, comfortable low register. At first the high register needed a little figuring out, but now I play higher, louder, and longer than ever before. Stainless steel is now my chop's best friend.
I have been using the Bora on F tuba and have had similar results. The sometimes stuffy low register on my Rudy F has come to life like never before. And I can't emphasize more how comfortable the mouthpiece is. One can play for hours and feel like you just warmed up.
I guess the Steelers are the best team right now in football, and tuba mouthpieces. A major steel at only $135.00. What a steel of a deal.
