Hey guys and gals, I was wondering if there was any Funk/Disco music out there all ready written for Tuba/Euphonium, as I would love to get down and funky with some new fun music to play...

There are many bass guitar transcriptions avaliable on the web. You just have to get used to playing an octave lower than written, which is so easy it makes me wonder why tuba music isn't written that way. Here is an archive of transcriptions:

Funk and disco is so repetitive that you probably could do without a transcription, like playing "Good Times" by Chic. I enjoy playing James Jamerson bass lines from classic motown, they are more like concertos than bass lines and just as difficult. Try playing the transcription of "For Once In My Life"

One thing that makes bass lines on tuba sound better is to tongue every single note. Bass guitars don't slur like tubas.

Maybe TubaFunk by Peter Rauch would work. Recording here:

Sheet music here and various other dealers:

Good luck,

I'm working on "Let There Be Funk" by D. Eddie Davis. Fun and challenging!

I don't know if you've ever played "the chicken"(if you haven't look for the weather report or buddy rich version on youtube). The tuba part to that is really funky and really good.

I arranged The Chicken for tuba quartet for the Long Island Tuba Quartet to play. Challenging though. Jaco Pastorius doesn't make those bass parts easy!
