A quick plug here for Mike Finn and his "H" mouthpiece...

I bought one just recently, but WOW, this mouthpiece is THE right match for me and my Marzan. It really lights up the sound -- the upper register sings and the low register is clear and solid. I've been trying a lot of pieces recently, with varying degrees of success, but the H blows them all out of the water. I only wish I'd have tried it sooner. The rim is 32 mm, which is a little small compared to other mouthpieces. It's about the same diameter as a Bach 18, which I used for about 10 years, so it feels natural to me!

I recently tried a friend's MF "H" mouthpiece and was very impressed indeed - in fact told him if he ever wants to sell, I would be interested

Good clear, but full tone and it seemed to work on my Neptune very well indeed.

I might have ordered one from the states, but know from experience that the import duty is extortionate.

32.00 mm mouthpieces work for me as well, but I like shallow mouthpieces. Now, If he'd put that rim on an MF4 I'd be interested.

The MF-4H is a narrow flat rim. The "H" has a wider rim. The MF-4's rim is very rounded.

The MF-4H is a narrow flat rim. The "H" has a wider rim. The MF-4's rim is very rounded.

Yeah, the -H suffix on the MF3H, 4H, and 5H indicates a flatter, sharper rim a la modern Helleberg 120s. The "H" replica mouthpiece rim is a bit wider and more rounded, although not as round as my non-H suffix rims, which are closer to a Bach style. Clear as mud?

Ive been using Mike's H mouthpiece for a couple of months and I really like it as well. Id love this rim on his other pieces as well. I use the 2B as well and if it had this rim on it, it would be even more spectacular than it already is.

Anybody know how this compares to the new G&W Kronos model? Seems very similar . . . .

My 3H is the best mouthpiece I have - it matches my PT-20 perfectly. Mike always attends the Army conference with lots of stock. Try them if you have the chance.

At last I have got a MF 'H' and am finding it really incredible. It for me produces a gorgeous round tuba tone throughout all registers, has round enough rim to be comfortable, while providing good definition, seems to reduce effort against my previous PT-90 and somehow I feel in greater control. I bought for my Neptune which it fits perfectly, but out of fun tried on my PT-15 to find it really worked well on the F too, maintaining that bass tuba tone, but with extra depth - I played Bydlo using it straight off, so the deep funnel of the 'H' does not seem to hinder high register - impressive!

I tried tonight on my Neptune in concert and got several compliments on how good I sounded, so I think the 'H' will be replacing the PT-90. I must try it more on the PT-15 before deciding, but warn Mike he might be receiving an order from me for a second 'H' for my F tuba

I bought a MF5H recently and LOVE it on my willson...works great on sousaphone too since I'm already used to a Helleburg rim

Sometimes the answer is given to me and I just don't listen.

I received a Mike Finn H today. When I got rid of the mouthpiece that I though was to Holy Grail (Perantucci 12, old style) I cast it off because I thought the throat was too tight and I didn't want to take the chance to have it opened up. I felt that someone could use it as is and love it as much as I did. I started the mouthpiece search again. The second I put the "H" to my lips in the kitchen I said to my wife "this thing feels exactly like the Perantucci 12 I traded away". I went down to the basement and plugged it into the horn and play tested it against the 2 mouthpieces I am currently using. This mouthpiece is better pitch wise for this horn than anything I have played to date. The feel is exactly what I want and the larger throat lets me get more air through the horn when needed.

Mike Finn: thanks for putting up with me and the multiple mouthpiece trades over the last year plus.

I now own a custom Mike Finn 4 with the MF-H rim. It is as good as I imagined.
