I tried finding here a post about good gig cases for both CC tuba (PT6) and for an F (PT16) what are your recommendations?

I love my Miraphone factory gig bag, I have one for my 188CC and it sits just right on my back for weight. I also like the fact that it's light overall. My Reunion blues is a leather bag and hangs lower, it's hard on the back even with a lighter horn inside. The leather bag looks nicer because it's distressed and isn't bright blue, but it feels heavier than the other with different horns. My F swims in the Miraphone bag, but I use it for both right now because of recent unrelated back pain. The Mira bag also comes in different sizes and you'll be able to find the ones you need.

Cronkhite all the way. Expensive, but the best bag out there.

Cronkhite. I have 2 and would not for a second question buying a 3rd.

Not sure what shipping or import duties are like for getting one to Israel, but still... they are great.

I've been quite happy with my Soundwear Pro bag - has a bell ring protector built into the bag to forstall dents and a few luxuries like a mouthpiece pocket, detachable music briefcase and detachable backpack harness. My old hardcase was just too difficult to fit in the Accord - this semi-rigid bag fits nicely in the back seat. I carry my Miraphone 191 with it everywhere using the carry handle (haven't used the backpack feature) but wouldn't use it on planes. I bought it from Woodwind and Brass - took 4 months to get, but it was worth it.

Cronkhite. I just bought a nice leather 2 tone brown/black one for my Willson 3100. It has VERY heavy duty, comfortable shoulder straps. 2 big storage compartments, heavy duty zippers, seams. Its VERY well made and is definitely one of the best choices I've made. They aren't cheap, but neither is a tuba. If you want top of the line, get a Cronkhite.

Gard bags are inexpensive and very well-built. They are made in India and marketed by the Brasswind. Available in several sizes, delivery time is measured in months.

I have always had good luck with Altieri Brass Pacs.

My cordura Cronkhite bag could not be built any better. I have no complaints with it. Invest the money in one, you will not regret it.

I have a Cronkhite black leather bag. I love it. Great protection. But I was told by someone today that the metal clips on the straps are too weak and they know someone who had their horn in a bag and the clips broke and the horn fell down the stairs. Does anyone know if this is a common or likely problem with the Cronkhite bags?

I'm no engineer, but the metal sure *looks* thick enough to last longer than the fabric. Defective part, maybe? Tuba made from lead?

I recently purchased a Cronkhite gig bag for my Miraphone 186CC, and have seen his bags for a 6/4 and 3/4 size horns. The one I now own is by far the most comfortabe bag I have ever lugged a tuba around in. They are a little pricey, but they are the most durable bags I have ever seen. A previous instructor of mine has two that he purchased ages ago and are still in tip top shape. I would definitly consider one if money is not an option.

Plus, if word of faulty parts got back to Glenn, I'm sure he'd fix it for you.

I just received a Gard bag from Woodwind-Brasswind. It is not the same design as the one in the photo, no zipper for the length of the case, only around the bell rim. I would not have ordered the one that arrived. The phone operator was of course no expert on the item.

I am stunned that there is no mention of Soundware bags. I originally got one for my Firebird (from Dillon) and really fell for it. I can't say enough about it. I then bought one for a Thor I used to own.

They sit on the ground like a regular hard case (as well as on the bell) and can take a pounding. I have taken this bag on 7-week tours FOUR times and have not had a problem with it.

Give the Soundware a look. Call Dillon.

I also love the Soundwear bag I have for my 6450, but the latest word from them is that they are no longer making tuba bags. If any existing stock fits a tuba you own I highly recommend them!
