As a very young boy, my uncle used to play this march on piano. I loved it. In junior high, high school and college bands, I never came in contact with it. Finally, as bass trombonist in the 724th Air Force Band I played it. Now many years have passed, and I'd like a chance to play it on my tuba. Where can I purchase a march folio sized copy of just the tuba part? Or failing that, does anyone have a copy they can scan to send me at akensmith at aol dot com? Thanks in advance.

There is a free downloadable string bass part on the web. It is from an arrangement, but as far as I can see, it holds the important bass element:

The octave is wrong for tuba purposes, but that would be a lesser problem.

I am aware of three different editions (Ascher's, Hildreth, and Carl Fischer - I have them all) and there ARE differences in the tuba parts. Very minor, but if you're playing it with other tubists (based on your post I'm guessing not, but figured I'd check) it can't hurt to have the same one. If you want the others just send me a PM or email and I can get them to you.

Way way back when I was in HS I got to spend the summer studying with Dan Perantoni when he was still teaching at the Univ. of IL and he had a great arrangement of this for tuba quartet that just rocked for each of the four parts. I don't know if he had arranged it himself.

A tuba quartet version is included in Norlan Bewley's Octubabest book. Can also be purchased as an individual piece from him or in the book.

I like the idea behind that site, but I have seen some scans there apparently been done at too low a resolution. Distances between staff lines has in some cases been uneven, which is a huge problem, as that excludes me from reading them at any relevant speed. The DE-scans however appear like being good.

Thanks to all for your replies. I've downloaded and printed out three different editions. The brass quintet version appears to be the most fun.

Amazingly, the uncle who played it for me on the piano more than sixty years ago, is not only still living; he's still playing piano!
