I recently acquired a Conn 40K sousaphone. I noticed there is a crack in the metal right below where the gooseneck connects. Not knowing much about instrument repair on an 80+ year old instrument A) how bad is this to repair? B) Any suggestions on who to take this to in the Kansas City area to take it to for repair? I don't mind driving a reasonable distance to take it to an expert.
Thanks in advance!

Indeed. The 38K I used to play needed one, and it was ordered right in by my local tech.

I know an awesome repair tech in Columbia, MO.
He can repair that no problem. He also has an ultra-sonic cleaner.
I used to work summers for him.
I havn't found a tech in KC i'm impressed with yet.
PM me if you want the info.

for the KC area, try BAC Horn Doctor in Olathe KS...he could get the part, and if he can't get it, he could make one for you...

Sorry Bloke, but I will happily double your offer of $20. I have $40.00 ready to go!

Of course, your correct though... The horn is "toast". I'm willing to shell out $20 for "scrap brass".

Please don’t sell it to bloke! Last time he put his magic on a 40K, it ended up being out of plastic.
(Ain’t even jealous on the OP, as I have my own 40K).

OR, wait till it gets worse and THEN fix it.
