A horn player has her masters recital at the end of November and she asked me to play "Triangles" by John Stevens. I'll be playing it on my 1292CC. Anyone have any experience playing this piece? Any suggestions on things I may want to look out for in the piece? Thanks

Lots of fun! I have played it a couple of times and had a blast on Hirshbrunner C.

I've played it, but probably more importantly have coached it 10+ times.

Biggest piece of advice--don't fight the grooves. It's easy to over-intellect on this piece as some (especially composite) rhythms just look/feel harder than they are. Let the grooves happen and life will be easy.

Indeed. It's just like I tell my jazz band kids with funk or Latin rhythms: easier to "feel" than read. Learn your part, then LISTEN and trust your gut on the grooves.

Also, if you don't have access to a good mute that plays well with your 1291, start lookin'.

I've done this piece on a few occasions now. It's a great work and a real blast to play. I only wish there were more like it!

agree totally on this--you've got to match the other two in timbre whilst con sordino..... just imperative for a great performance.
