Iv got the new miraphone 1293 and have been using the giddings and webster baer mmvi . I have also tried the shilke helleberg II and I like the cleaner articulation and response, but don't like the rim. Any suggestions? Don't really want perantuccis. I know this is a very personal thing but would still like some opinion. Someone suggested the laskey 30 H but I have no experience with this model.

Actually I was in the same situation like you a few months ago with my CC tuba, I chose the Helleberg 2. And the main reason I chose it was because of the rim. May I ask how come that's a turn off for you?

The shilke II is good but I find the rim pretty uncomfortable. I really don't like messing around with things too much but as I have a new instrument I thought I'd make sure I found a good match. The baer mmvi is very comfortable and range etc is easy but it feels a little unclear compared to the shilke or even the conn helleberg I have. Someone has very kindly already contacted me and is sending the laskey 30 H .someone has also mentioned bloke pieces but I have absolutely no experience with these. Keep the feedback coming . Recently I have become a big fan of the Conn Helleberg Standard (S). I also have a Shilke 66 and prefer the Conn. How does your Conn Helleberg work?

I use a MF 2B on my CC and its awesome. I also use the MF "H" on it when I want a different color of sound, and I find it works well with smaller ensemble blends too. I concur that the blokepieces are well worth looking into.....stainless makes a nice mouthpiece particularly if the groups you play in have lots of outdoor gigs.

I've used the MF3 with my mirafone. Good sound and control with it. I also really like the feel of the rim.

If you don't care for the rim of a SH-II, I can't really see how you would like the 30H.

While not exactly the same, they are very similar and were both designed by the same person.

Unlike years ago, when you got what you paid for in a mouthpiece, or guitar, or whatever, there are several people out there who can exactly do what you need to a mouthpiece: Doug Elliot, Vladimir @ Dillon Music, Jim @ Kanstul, Scott Laskey, etc. Call one of them up, tell them you want "X" rim on "Y" mouthpiece, be prepared to spend between $150 and $500 depending on what you want, and just do it. Does that sound expensive? We pay $X,XXX, and sometimes $XX,XXX on a tuba, so don't complain about a few hundred to get exactly what you need. I did for my tubas, and I could not be happier. They fit me like a Saville Row tailored suit, and I am not even tempted by the "newest" or "latest" or "what if" mouthpiece safari anymore.

The blokepiece symphony with a #2 rimworks great for me. I used it on my Besson CC and then now that I have gotten my PCK it is still my favorite mouthpiece.
