Yamaha Silent Brass for Tuba

I recently saw the Yamaha Silent Brass system for tuba in person. I own one for Euphonium; the tuba model is very different. Are the attachment clips that hold it to the tuba bell there for any other reason? What is the purpose of the long jointed cone, openly segmented, that goes inside the tuba? I was told the electronics are identical.

I think it would be pretty easy to make cork spacers so that my euphonium Silent Brass mute will fit the tuba. Would it work?

I think you need to see one of these in person.

They aren't like a mute, persay. They are more like a plastic trash can strapped to the bell than an actual mute.

There is no cone sticking down in the bell. There is just a plastic tripod looking thing sticking down in the horn.

The picture shows the segmented cone that goes inside the tuba. It is the the part beneath the "trash can" in the picture. On the one I saw in person the cone segments would come apart and lift up in to the mute to store and make the "mute" easier to transport. I still wonder what the purpose of the segmented cone is? Also, on the one I saw, the "trash can" was in 2 parts with the cone section going on first and a second part, with the attachment clips, going over the first and attaching on to the bell.

The plastic clips that hold the system to the tuba bell seemed to be the weak point; the new one I saw ( right out of the box at a music store) broke one of the clips the first time we tried to attach it to my tuba bell. It made me wonder if there is an alternative way to fasten the system and whether there are other issues about the system I should know about.

The euphonium Silent Brass came with a duffel style carry bag; is there a similar bag available for the tuba one?
