Hi all,
Here is a clip from a recital given at this years Conservative Party Conference in Symphony Hall.
Very lucky to get to play with these guys on a regular basis. There was NO rehearsal and have to say we didn't even know it was being broadcast!
Best wishes.

Well played Ian! You provide a good clear bass to the group

fantastic playing, but really pearls before swine, our conservative party are not really culturally attuned, many would believe that they were hearing the entire City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and would quite happily see those players out of work.

Yes I agree.... I should perhaps say it was just a gig and nothing to do with political persuation!

I have a friend, a professor in London, who was there (because of political persuasion!). I asked him about it, and he says he took pleasure in it, but says he doesn't have any insightful responses to offer. That may be the best, though, if ordinary people just like what you do!

OK, I'll admit to my anti-conservative bias, and my comment applies to the conservative party and not the musicians.
Of course we should enjoy the music for what it is, and I did

I think it was pretty inept of the BBC to label it as such - why not City of Birmingham Symphony Brass?
No doubt the non-musical in the audience did not have a clue what was the group anyway, but if they enjoyed may have done something for the cause of classical music support.

The microphone used or the transfer to Youtube didn't do the fidelity justice, but one can still hear that clear, balanced English sound. Yes, looks to be a very high pressure gig. Excellent playing, Ian!

The trumpets suffered most from this. If I hadn't been looking, I would have thought there were oboes playing. Nonetheless, I agree that all of the players were playing very well and making excellent music!

Nice! Beautiful, full sound.
Just curious, what horn are you using? It looks like a Besson/B&H 3+1 Eb, I'm just not sure of specifics.

Hi,
Yes It's an old Besson Sovereign 981. I play most things on it but Jon (Neptune) has now introduced me to B&S CC Tubas.
Thanks for the comments. If any one wants to see it I'll send by PM.
Best wishes,
Ian
