Anyone have any experience with this device? Thinking about picking one up. I am wondering how the sound compares to DAT? Also curious as to how quick and easy and fast the playback is after recording something.

FWIW, I have the PS04 and found it great for practice recording. My teacher is impressed and wants one for himself. Email me if I can be of any (minimal) assistance.

Wow, finally a question that I feel totally comfortable with answering! Playback is immediate. Click a button and your back, and setting track points is not impossible. It's on the low end of digital hard disc recording. However if it is for practice or to record yourself playing tuba quartets, you'll never know the difference. Digital is great, it makes microphones really crucial though, not that analog dosn't, but tape compresses in a way that digital does not and can sound really sterile. One of the rock bands I record with did an album entirely on the roland vs1680 hard disc recorder. This unit: 5000DM, good mic preamps and mic's; 10000dm (all borrowed from friends). You can hear it here: http://www.ton-3.de The zoom has been used in an american band I play in for home recording guitar and preproduction tracks. We dumped the stuff into pro tools at a studio and saved a lot of money. You can hear it here: http://www.andygermak.com Works great. Borrow some neuman mics and you can sound great on all digital things. I have never been a fan of DAT although my wife and father (a serious digital pionner) are. The reasons are: It can still break, stretching is possible no matter what people tell you, you still have to transfer it to another medium to play it. Of course I continue to be an opinionated SOB, and please take my answers as such. Peace. ASG
