An orchestra I am playing with have the Radetzky March in their December concert program. According to Daniel's there should be a tuba (and I remember it played in the VPO every New Year Day concert), but no tuba part is included in the set of music they are using. Does anyone have a copy they could please let me have?

Speaking of which...what's your preferred tempo? My current conductor switched from (IMHO) "too slow" to "too fast". I'm looking for opinions on "just right".

The original dance orchestra was way smaller than the VPO of the well known New Year’s concerts. And even that version of the VPO is modest in woodwinds and basses.

Johann Strauss Senior’s music is more or less arranged, when performed by full orchestra. I remember catalogue excerpts on the back pages of old orchestral horn parts telling of expandable sets of parts for various Strauss pieces. One sample was the emphasizing that if only one trombone available, it should play the 3rd (bass) part.

If you use your Neptune, play the bass trombone part octave down. If you play your F play the same part loco or take the higher passages an octave down. The main task of the tuba will be that of a well blending bass reinforcement anyway.

Dave Mills here , tubist and librarian( better than a paper route)in Charlotte. There are 2 editions of this in our library , the old Lucks edition edited by Arthur Luck many moons ago and the new Kalmus edition ed. by Clark McCalister. The Kalmus has a tuba part , the lucks does not.Email me at Davidm@Charlottesymphony.org" target="_blank The editions are compatible because our clarinets use the A parts from the Lucks while the orch plays Kalmus.

Follow up to previous post. i had it bassackwards. Luck's has the tuba part . The McCalister/Kalmus does not. Which makes sense,Arthur luck wrote many things out in manuscript.Ok , all you college kids, who was Arthur Luck?Discuss.

Thanks for the help with Radetzky part - I now have presumably the Kalmus part (although not marked as such). I have forwarded to the conductor who is confirming it will 'fit' with the orchestral set (presumably Lucks?) for me to play.

However, with such good tuba pieces as Pomp & Circumstance, Lt. Kije and 1812 also in the concert it will be worth my while anyway

You mean the pre-WWI Philadelphia Orchestra bassist who played in the Navy Band during the war and then joined the Detroit Symphony as bassist and later as librarian?
