The brass group I play with each Tuesday evening read through your quintet pieces last week and everyone was very enthusiastic about them. This week we sat down and looked through each one before we tried to play it, which helped to iron out some rough spots. The group leader is VERY impressed with the arrangements and we plan to play at least some of them during our annual Christmas gig at a local retirement home. The group insisted that I convey their sentiments, so a hearty Ho Ho Ho and Thank You, Wade. Your superb efforts are very much appreciated.

I played the first few bars of "Christmas Time is Here" on the piano for the trombone player so that he would know what one of the titles is. Our first thought was that we couldn't use such a secular tune for a church service. OTOH, we realized that no one stays for the Postlude at a Catholic Mass*, so we'd be "safe" playing that song for that purpose.

*...as opposed to a Unitarian service, where the congregants not only stay in their seats for the Postlude, they stay silent and listen intently. They would probably smile and enjoy "Christmas Time is Here!"

Of course, these are generalities that may not be accurate for individual churches. YMMV.

Thanks so much for doing these arrangements!

I was intrigued by the duets, but didn't have a horn player handy, nor am I used to transposing. However, I can read treble clef. So, I grabbed my F tuba and pretended I was playing a C tuba while reading the horn part. Another tubist covered the bottom part.

Even though I was playing an octave lower than a horn would, these duets sounded really good. Yes, the lower part got a little too high (relative to the upper part) sometimes, but some judicious taking some phrases down an octave would probably cure that.

I think these duets would be great for two tubas. Just some octave shifts here and there on the lower part, and everything in bass clef. Then, they would be perfect for us "concert pitch" kinda guys.

Thank you for posting the Flugelhorn part. This will work wonderful for our church group that has 4 trumpets, a trombone, a baritone in G and a tuba. We will have 2 trumpets on the trumpet and flugelhorn parts, put the baritone and trombone together and the tuba will round out the bottom. We'll let you know if we find anything strange in the arrangements, but so far it really sounds good.

Yes, the baritone is a 3 valved treble clef baritone bugle in G. I have sent a PM to you.

Thank-you for posting this music. We read through these pieces during our quintet reheasal this week. Everyone really like them. We use a trombone on the horn part. We will be using one or two thsi year. Thanks again.

These are wonderful arrangements! My professional quintet only plays arrangements with organ (and sometimes piccolo trumpets), so we won't need these this season (maybe next), but I read them down with an amateur group for a fund-raising event. We were all very impressed. Even with less experienced players, they were very playable, and easy to put together with a minimum of rehearsal. Best of all, they sound harder than they are, not like playing from a hymnal, or some high school arrangements. Quality work.
