Please elaborate - what amazes? Tone, technical proficiency, projection?

What are the tuba parts like in these? I do not know at all.

The Schoenberg was in 97' so I imagine he was playing his Nirschl but I'll ask him today.

If you haven't heard the Francesca da Rimini with Esch. you have got to listen to that.
Kirk is playing on his Alex 163 4 valve, awesome.

He was using his PT-6 on that recording.

Also check out Dave on the Christopher Rouse CD on Telarc with the Flute Concerto. In the third movement there is a moment that, to me, shows just what a special player Dave is. Effortless articulation that is always "just right" with a sound that makes you want to melt. Perfect dynamic control as well. This too is on his PT-6 (not that it matters what tuba he plays, he'd sound incredible on a trash can). I was at the concert back in '96 when the Houston Symphony premiered this piece and I'll never forget how Dave sounded that night. Epic.
