For obvious reasons I will not take part in any TC’s, yet i don’t really protest people announcing what may be one of their very few tuba related local or regional events. Events which may even lead to more TubeNet’ters.
I followed Schleppy’s link and went to Alaska, which in contrast to Mrs. Sippi has TC events. I was kind of surprised by Wasilla having a TC, as that town is fairly small. But then they have humour, when it comes to selecting their conductors. Please have a look:

In this TC context my reaction to Harvey first was about Mr. Phillips.
My second reaction was: Eureka! That was the goal of the detour taken by Schleppy’s helicon!

I, for one, am very happy you posted this. I check the Tuba Christmas site about 3 weeks ago and nothing was posted for my area. Because of this posting, I looked again and there is a concert now listed. I will be attending. I would have missed it if this post was not here. Being a non-professional, this is an important opportunity to play for me. Yes, I play regularly in a church group, but this is big for me.

Hm! I guess only "Hacks" go to Tuba Christmases according to an above thread? Wonder if there is a Professional or two that sort of like to celebrate the meaning of Christmas using the tools of their trade. Maybe those carols deserve a little professional treatment. Never thought of Harvey Phillips and all those service band personnel that enjoy the DC TC as Hacks. Some of those 12 and 13 year olds that go and play half the notes may be the "professionals " of the future.

I am not sure why there wasnt one in Newport this year. I know two years ago was a self indulgent train wreck but last year I was unable to attend so not sure how it went.

I think a few of us might go play tuba carols on the corner of Rose and Euclid on Wednesday.
Not sure if we've done Tuba Christmas in the past here though. (Anyone know...?) I might go ask my professor about organizing a large-scale event in the future.

It would be GREAT if Skip Gray or someone at UK would pull together a TubaChristmas. Heck, it could be a grad student if the prof doesn't want to fool with it. I'm in if it goes down.

It isn't difficult to get one going. I started one up a few years ago in Alamosa, CO at Adams State College. A town of 9000 and a college of 2000. The first year we had 13 and the 2nd year we had 18. I have since moved to ND and didn't see Alamosa on the list this year so not sure if they kept it going or not. sure hope so.
