Probably is an Eb piece being that it was written by an English composer. I have seen it done on F. Personally, I prefer it on CC unless you happen to be using an unusually hefty F tuba. lol

It was written for John Fletcher, who played a Boosey comp Eb. I would think that a big F would actually work really well, pop out that high G above the staff with a fat sound I can't make that sound open on my CC (maybe you can, I dunno)

I played it on my undergrad degree recital on F. It's not impossible on CC, just much easier on a bass tuba. If you have access to one, your third movement chops will thank you.

Several years ago, Chris Olka (Seattle Symphony) played it with our brass band. I think he used a MW 2182 (shortly after they came out). Sounded great.

It was a 2182 and since then I've heard him play it on a Yamaha F. Chris would sound great on a garden hose too.

I always play it on F. I've played it on a Gronitz PF-125, Yamaha 621, and a Yamaha 822.

Many times on the Meinl Weston 45-SLP for me.

Both with piano and with wind ensemble. Never done it with orchestra or brass band accompaniment.

I've performed it successfully twice and both times on my Mirafone 188. It can be done, but you better have the endurance because you will second guess yourself when that high g comes up in the third movement. To each his own.
