Can I just ask at these conferences do they usually have vendors with tubas to try? Sorry I have never been.

I don’t see Meinl-Weston. Can’t look through who represents them.

Gemeinhardt hardly have flutes on their agenda in this context.

And then Kanstul very likely will be represented by Lee Stofer.

I am sure there will be plenty of different brands to check out. There always are! And it will be loud...

An extra enticement: Since the Conference is on a Military base, there is no SALES TAX!! For those who are seriously shopping for an instrument, a lot of money could be saved.
One suggestion - contact the vendor to make sure that they are bringing the make/model you're interested in trying/purchasing.

This one is 100% free. Well, I guess we all pay for it through out taxes - but whatever .

That's right, and I'll be sharing a booth with him as well. (First table inside the door, as usual.) Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

I will be representing Kanstul at the Capitol Tuba Conference in January, and hope to have Kanstul's National Sales Manager, Charles Hargett, with me at the booth, along with Mike Finn and the usual suspects

Kanstul has indeed been very busy this year, developing new models and refining them. The 4/4 York -model BBb and CC will be shown, as well as the counterpart monster Eb. There was a lot of interest and excitement about the model 66-S Eb in Chicago at the Midwest Clinic. This 5-front-valve reincarnation of the York monster Eb has a number of people talking, and will be on display at the booth. The Kanstul model 80 F tuba was also quite popular. The Eb and F I had at Midwest last week are sold, but I should have more for the Army Show.

I will also have Kanstul euphoniums at the show, three and possibly four different models. I have specifically requested that Kanstul make a 3+1 compensating instrument with specs very much like the vintage Besson I once owned and loved. This instrument will be soldered together in the traditional manner (no screws), have an 11" bell, and be lacquered. I tried a Kanstul like this at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt this past March, and fell in love with it. It was like a brand-new version of my old 1957-vintage Besson, just wonderful. I should have one to show in January.

As Scott mentioned, we will be in a no-sales-tax situation, and I will be in a position to offer discounts on convention demonstrator models. There will be more information on my website, and the "Sponsors" link on Tubenet.

As far as the curiosity about names on the list, Gemeinhardt, LLC is part of Gemstone Musical Instruments, which also distributes W. Nirschl instruments. They were at the Conference last year, with Nirschl instruments, some of which are much like the German piston-valve instruments, and some rotary-valve instruments from Brazil. The rotor construction and appearance was very interesting and artistic, and seemed to work very well, too.

Now, if we can just not have a blizzard in Washington, DC this time. . . .

Methinks you mistake the atmosphere of TUSABTEC. It's not (primarily) a trade show. The vendors *tend* to sell to
people whose decision to attend (or not) does not depend at all on what will be on display. Predicting *who* will be there is a lot like the (best by test) method of predicting the weather - it will be like the last one. Also, I don't get the impression that this conference is high on the list of places to show off something new for the first time. The usual suspects will bring the usual merchandise. Over the years, I've been mostly surprised by USED equipment that happens to be on consignment, as opposed to new models.

In other words - don't hold your breath waiting for vendors to announce what they will have on display. Some might not know until they load the truck.

Besides - with all that work waiting for you in the shop, do you have time to schlep all the way from Williston to Arlington? Of course, if you bring the 36J...I could run some tests to find out which blokepiece configuration best suits it.

Also, look at Priceline, Travelocity, or Google maps. Find Fort Myer, VA, then search that location for hotels. It is a smart to be within walking distance of the pedestrian gate unless you have wheels. Driving any distance (for economical hotels) is not good because of congested roads and slow traffic most hours of the day.

Eating on post includes sandwiches or visiting the Officers' Club for casual or formal (jacket required) experiences.
