I actually replaced the springs in my PT-606p with Yamaha springs

It might be easier to convince BMW to change their gas tank caps to fit Honda's.
Good Luck!

Bloke,
I never thought I'd say this but you and Roger Bobo share a fondness for Japanese springs....

Interesting! Can't say I've played a B&S/MW piston tuba before, only ever rotary, so I'm not sure what I'd prefer. But I do have a MW 551S Euphonium, never had an issue with the valves, but I wonder if I'd like Yamaha springs better? I'll bring my euph into my shop sometime soon and get back to you on this.

Just wondering whether it is necessary to modify the bottom caps on a 606P in order to use the Yamaha springs. I'd be interested in seeing for myself the difference in the valve action.

My springs fit perfectly. I don't know if the guy I had change them did anything else to them though...

It should be a rather simple step to make a collet for the bottom valve caps and machine out the proper width for Yamaha springs on a lathe. Just a facing cut. FWIW. Could make some repair tech a little pocket change to offer this mod...just thinking out loud.

I'm thinking you could kill two birds with one stone by making these HEAVYWEIGHT.

Bloke, good point but I was just thinking of using an Aluminum collet that wouldn't mar the knurling. Take a spud, cut it out and face it hollow, then hit it with the band saw to give it a some wiggle room for the caps and VIOLA! VOILA?! Cello...? one of those French instruments...

I've played my B&S for 10 years without Yamaha springs, so I might not need them. But, what would they do differently that what I have?
