Eric, what does the Houser mp compare to, in size, among the better known euph mps. My impression is that it is a very deep, wide mp. Is it closer to a big bass trombone mp than to, say, an SM3?

To answer you question, the Lehman M does have a bigger cup than the SM3. I played on one for awhile, and then I collaborated with Dave on making a new mouthpiece. I'm now playing on a Lehman S cup (stands for small, but trust me, it's not - probably about the size of an SM3) with a tapered exterior, much like the Mead series. The biggest benefit for me is the rim, which is a much more tuba-style rim, and very comfortable. The design of the outside of the mouthpiece has a small indentation right at the throat, and that's what prompted me to try again. So I went smaller, but asked Dave to put more metal in around the cup and basically just taper it right down to the throat. It's a fabulous piece, and Dave told me a couple of weeks ago that he wants to make me one in stainless steel. I can't wait! His new MJT tuba mouthpieces are absolutely wonderful. I'm using the MJT E-C with a B rim on my Besson 983 Eb tuba right now, and really digging it!
