Look up "bocal" in Wikipedia.

What is paranormal about a trombassoon in high pitch Ab?

But then, the kinda sick, off-center part of me wonders what that would sound like...

Wonder no more! Here's a link to the Wikipedia article Art mentioned above (complete with sound file):

Sounds like a cylindrical bored Saxophone - even harsher in tone!

I guess now we'll see trombone players walking around with reeds hanging out of their mouths! Hey... that reminds me of a joke.
Did you hear the one about the oboe player who swallowed her reed? The maestro call the emergency room to see what to do. The nurse on the desk told him to use a muted cornet. Ba da bing, ba da boom.

Isn't that a "tromboon?" PDQ Bach wrote for it . . .

Amusing link!
As far as my eyes tell both trombones are no larger than medium tenors by which I mean the Bach 36 magnitude. Actually they look smaller.
The radiator wrap of the F valve is known from some Olds models and from the Besson Stratford line. The Besson Imperial G&D trombone from 1978, that I have, has a valve wrap similar to those known from Bach 36 & 42.

It looks bigger than the other one. I have seen pictures of G/D's with this style of wrap as well (in addition to countless Olds, student Bachs,...).
