With TubaChristmas getting underway pretty soon, I wanted to ask what is your favorite song that you like to play.

Mine would have to be a tie between "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and "Good King Wencelas." "Mountain" for the smooth, swing flow of the notes, "Wencelas" for the opportunity to blast out the low notes so loudly.

Also, do any of you get to play more than the 20 songs in the green book at your TubaChristmas.

My favorites are Jingle Bells and Come Sweet Death.

We don't usually play more than 18-20-ish songs.

Another song that I enjoy is "Adestle Fidelis." The only thing would be all the high notes involved, which is hard to do on a BBb tuba. I'm more of a low note player.

I usually play the high tuba line on an Eb. I like the ancient chords in "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," and the moving lower part in Greensleeves.

I hope I get a chance to play "Sleep, O Holy Child of Mine," which has a C above the staff. It was rehearsed in Richmond, VA, last year, but not played because bad weather forced us inside a bank lobby where we only got a little over 30 minutes sharing a stage.

At our local show, Rock of Ages (a Hanukkah song) gets passed out every year. It's a good arrangement, and a nice little change of pace.
