Looking for traditional Itailian and Greek Folk music

Hello all,

I started a small strolling band about a year ago. We usually play old German, Irish and Scottish folk from the Hungry Five books and a little early American pop. It turns out people like us! The Greek and Italian clubs here have shown some interest but I don't have anything to play for them! I'd like to find old Italian and Greek dances and folk tunes. Even if I need to transpose it for the ensemble or lift it from recordings. I'll take what I can get! The group is made up of 2 clarinets, a trumpet, a trombone and a tuba. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I also have "Hungry Five in Italy", "Hungry Five in Spain", and several others I can't remember at the moment. Long out of print.

Thanks, Dan. I have both The Hungry Five in Spain and Italy. I love them both but the Italy book specifically only has 16 or so tunes and most of them are from the Godfather movies. There's nothing wrong with that, but it's just not what I'm looking for. Do you have more old Italian music for this sort of band?

Hmmm... There are two Italian numbers in "Schnicklefritz Band Around the World" titled "Santa Lucia" and "Margarita". Other than those, I don't know of any Italian folk music. If you run across some arrangements I'd certainly be interested.

I also have the Schnicklefritz Band book. It's another great book.

I ran into an old acquaintance of mine (a 72 year old trumpet player) yesterday who is very involved with the Italian club here in town. I asked if he knew of any old Italian music and he said: "I still have my old song book we used to sing from at club picnics when I was a kid. It's a hand written book from the old country." I have no idea what to expect from that book but he promised to copy it and drop it off to me this week. If anything good comes from that I'll pass it along to you!

A side note: I have another Hungry Five style book called "The Village Band" Volume 2 by Harry O. Henneman. I'm missing the 1st clarinet part. If you have it I'd love a copy of that 1st clarinet part. Some titles are "General Boulanger's March", "Springtime Polka", "Germania", and "Entrance of the Gladiators".

Also, I know you've got a huge collection of these sorts of books, but I have another you may not. It's called "Oom-Pah-Pah Band Book" by Paul Yoder. There are a few good marches in there among other (mostly American) pop offerings. if you're interested I'll send it your way!

The only book I have of "The Village Band" Volume 2 is trombone. I have a set of Volume 1 though.

I do have "Oom-Pah-Pah". Yes... it's a good set of books.

About ten years ago I started seriously collecting march folios. I currently have about 400 titles. Some are complete sets and others are just 'bits and pieces'. None-the-less... just about any book I pick up now fits into the collection somewhere. Sadly... I have boxes full of these things that I haven't had time to properly sort and catalog. This was supposed to have been my 'Winter Project' a few years back. But... the Winters keep passing!

Chatfield Lending Library lists a set of "The Village Band" books but it doesn't say if it's volume 1 or 2.
