what do you guys think...
ive played them both... and i own a rudy 455
i like the sound of my rudy alot...but i played a horn the other day and i realized i like the feel of pistons a lot better...and i was playing a solo on it and it flowed so much easier on the pistons and the responce of the horn was a little better...
but i cant remember what the 995 sounds like ...
so i am not sure what to buy....
i know my next purchase is going to be a 983 though...

I wouldn't rule out the MW 2145. I have tried a couple times to replace it with the RM piston, but everybody listening has said no way. Got same response when I tried the Besson next to it, but the besson was closer than the RM.
Just my $.02

If you love the Rudy sound (and who doesn't) you may also want to consider the Rudy 4345 - All the "benefits" of the 4/4 horn with the tigther response of their 3/4 (which is actually the size of a 186).
P.S. If you do take Matt's advice, I have a great playing 2145 as my "middle" horn that is up for sale.

well...
i dont like MW...
i have played a few 2155, 5145, 2165, 2000, 45
i dont like them... for me they are not comfortable to hold...
and the sound of the rudy is WAYYYY better... in fact i just played a 2155 about a week ago...it doesnt sing near as well as the rudy....
but im looking for a horn that is a bit smaller right now...the 4345p is smaller than the 455 and its pistons...
the i played the first 4345 here in the usa at lee stofer's place...the one that russ dickman has....
but i like the 455.. for me the projection is better and i feel i can get sound out all around...
and the 995 and the 4345p are both smaller over all than the 455....
trust me i really dont wanna sell her...it breaks my heart...but i need the money...im trying to buy my wife a new flute....and being in the navy i will be provided with a good tuba until i am able to purchase another horn...
i was just looking at some options as far as piston horns go...my three pics right now are
4345p
995
G-50
but i will be buying a 983 before i buy another big horn...
as i said ...being in the navy i will issued a descent horn to play on...

I used to own a 4345p. Nice horn, but I didn't care for the low register.[/quote]
You nailed it LV. I've played the Rudy and it's no match for the Besson/Nirschl in the low end. We've got the Planets coming up...Jupiter, well, you see my point. Plays like a big horn. D

Dave actually really liked his Rudy and often stated it was a cheaper/comparable alternative to a HB-2P. He traded the Rudy for a PT-6P only because he was getting ready to take the Boston audition and wanted something bigger. He also has said he now really loves his PT-6P and wouldn't trade back.
