Micro Frankenhorn

Has anyone tried making a micro gnagey style horn (CC)? Instead of using a king 12/2341 and a monster eb bell, using a conn 5j or olds 0 99 and a small eb bell? sounds like it would be an awesome little quintet horn and it looks feasible due to the olds tuba's long tuning slide.

Didn't Conn make a CC horn that's configured like that right out of the box?

What long tuning slide? Mine has only a 3 1/4 inch pull and is really not easily cutable due to the bends right after the pull. The long one is 4th valve, and it's not long enough. I had to add 2 inches to mine.

Even if you figured it out it would be so much cheaper to buy a 2J. You would have a better chance of ending up with a good horn as well. No knock on the O-99. Once it has been tweaked see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33942&hilit=Olds" target="_blank, it is a fantastic little BBb tuba, if BBb is what you want, and for me it is.
