Well, since I asked the question earlier, the topic has become more and more murky to me!

It seems that equal numbers of people call this horn a 1241, & 2341:

....as call this horn a 2341, & 1241:

!!!

Does ANYONE know know definitively, which is which? And approximately what years each model was made?

TIA!

I just tried to illustrate the differences that I see between these two horns....there may well be other differences, of which I am unaware.

I have just discovered that I cannot access the photos from my work computer.

Does anyone else have a problem seeing the examples?

I just played that horn at Dillons on Friday. According to the serial number (646431) it would have been made after 1980. The records I could find for King serial numbers only go up to 1980 (511751). It also looks like it has the tunable first valve slide which would make it 2341. That bell is probably from an older horn though since the lacquer is very yellowed like the old Kings from the 60's get.
BTW, the horn played pretty well. The fourth valve register was much more free than many 2341s I have played. You can see the horn on the dillonmusic.com website under used tubas.

Larry, Angelfire doesn't allow "off-site" linking to images, but here they are:
