Trombone or French Horn for Quartet?

While perusing the TubeNet messages, one that caught my attention was:

2 trumpets, tuba and a French horn
Beautiful stuff and, really, someday playing that sort of thing with the family has been a good part of my basic motivation for my recent Eb tuba purchase.
Until seeing this, my long-term idea was for a trio or quartet of trumpet(s), bass and trombone. My evil master scheme was to have my youngest daughter begin trombone this Summer. (And I'm planning to buy soon to get her buzzing on the mouthpiece now.)
I have to admit, a good part of the reason for trombone was for simple optics. A trombone really looks visually interesting in a small group, to say nothing of its musical charm. And certainly the music we will play will be more popular than classical. Maybe that suggests the answer right there. But such a valveless device is completely foreign to me so I'm not going to be much help to her.
So do you think I'm better off having her play a French horn, because it might be easier for her? And are there musical reasons to go French Horn rather than trombone (or vice versa) for our future group?
Thanks muchly,
RBG
