Bobo Solo - Signature Vs. Replica

I've been using a Replica Bobo solo in my 822F since I got it.

Today in my lesson, I used my teacher's Signature Bobo solo and we both noticed an immediate difference.

The feel of the mouthpiece was exactly and the sound was similar but the immediecy of a good clear sound was more evident on the Signature.

So, other than having a gold plated rim and cup and a LARGE price difference, can anyone tell how (and why) these pieces play so differently?

Thanks!
Kory

I cannot explain why the Bobo solo is different for you, but perhaps can shed some of my findings with you as it relates to other mouthpieces.

I own 4 shilke Helleberg II's... each one is different.

I own 3 PT65's... they are all different.

I've owned several of the "same" mouthpiece in the past... they were all different.

I believe it is physically impossible to replicate a mouthpiece exactly. there are too many factors that can't be controlled.. composition being one of them.

My experience has been that I keep buying them until I find the "right" one for me. Then, I unload them on Tubenet when I have "too many".

Certainly others might have a more well thought-out answer. I'm no expert... I just make farty noises into the horn, and hope for the best!

The Bobo models come in two variations. The Symphonic and the Solo. The Solo is more of a Eb or F tuba mouthpiece while the Symphony is a BBb or CC piece. Both are availible in the signature gold plated variation. The gold plating creates a smoother surface inside the piece and this inturn can make for a smoother more flexible "better" buzz and inhanced airflow.

If you want to buy a Gold-Plated Bobo mouthpiece and save money you should go to Mouthpiece Express and order a silver one and have it plated. The results should be similar and you will save some money. A Replica mouthpiece plated by them would cost you around 110$ while the Signature is 230$.

That's exactly what I did, and I liked the results.
