B&S predecessor

I do not know exactly when B&S was created as a GDR conglomerate. My suspicion is that it happened around 1965 or a bit earlier. I knew that one of the predecessors (maybe the only one, so that it only was as a name change) was VEB Sächsische Musikinstrumentenfabrik Klingenthal.

And today I came by a practical illustration. The photos are not the best, but the architecture and the especially the thumb ring flange is the same as with B&S:

As are the braces and the bottom-bow unmanning device, which is identical to the one on the mid-70's Symphonie I owned.

But the mouthpipe is much longer than in later years when the B&S fed it into the side of the fifth-valve rotor rather than the top, and it does not seem to have the graduated bore of the Symphonie.

Still, though, more resemblance than not.

hints that VEB’s existed in the Soviet occupation zone previous to the founding of the GDR in 1949.
