it is slated to be released in the "Spring". Everytime I have asked for a specific date I've been told "Spring". When I ask March or May, I'm told "Spring". Whatever - it is definifely worth the wait. The horn plays exceptionally well with great intonation and a big clear sound. Comfortable to hold and solid low register. THE WWBW will be carrying them in 6 valve model only - gold brass and yellow brass. The order has been placed but the final price has not been set-up in our system as yet so I can't help on that part for a little while. I spent about 4 hours on it this Summer at the factory and again in Budapest and found the horn to be amazing.
Just my observations.

Is this bigger, smaller, or about the same as the 181 ?

slightly smaller than the 181 and is listed as a 4/4 F tuba. It uses the same valve body as the 181 but with smaller bell and bows. There is also a different leadpipe on it. Christian tried 3 different pipes before settling on the final design. All I can say is that - IT WORKS! Miraphone contacted me last week to let me know that they would not have the prototype at the Midwest show since they are busy making the molds for the production of the instrument.
I have a photo of me holding the prototypie that Christian took in Budapest this Summer. If you would like to see it send me an e-mail or PM..
Have a great week!

I found a little bit of information on the Firebird. This is from a miraphone website, adequately translated by google.
