Okay everyone.....
What we have here is a 1920 Conn Tuba.

http://s92.photobucket.com/albums/l38/b ... rected.jpg

We (my son and I) affectionately refer to her as "The Beast". She has a 22" bell.
Been on musictrader.com website to look up the serial Number: (171216) states 1920 for year....
I found lots of images and drawings of old Conns, but not exactly like this one.

What model is this?
The only exact image I found to it was a photo of a silver version in the National Museum in Edinburgh. It has serial # 169899. The fact it is in a museum makes me wonder about it.

It has a great sound, like a fog descending over the room it is played in, it envelops you when you hear it....it also weighs a ton!
Refinished by Harv Hartman in 2006.

Here is the one in Scottland....
A bit fancier engraving on the bell than on The Beast.

Oh, and the image has the tuba on it's bell....

Thanks. Agree, they look to be the same horn, Serial numbers are rather close as well.
All credit for the Beasts' appearance goes to Harv Hartman. When she showed up (ebay purchase) she was raw brass and looked like a drain pipe (in appearance not shape).
Harv also sent out the valves for replating.... she sounds beautiful and looks great too.

It looks a bit like a 25J only with three valves and a one piece bell.
Looks fantastic!
