Could anyone compare the Miraphone Bruckner with the Meinl Weston Tuono? How do the sounds of these two tubas differ, which one would have any why? Thank you

I have not been about to get a Tuono to play, but I LOVE my Bruckner!

There are NO MW's to be had (played) within 2000 miles of here.

That seems very strange that there are almost no MW horns on the west coast. But you could have it worse and live in Houston where there are literally no places to try horns out and play. About the only chance I will get near here is at tmea next year.

I've never played a Brukner but I can say that the Tuono is wonderful. It's the best CC tuba that ever played in my life. It sounds great, both in a matter of volume and in depth. It is a very dark dark sound. Even better, have a wonderful precision, the final response is very fast. I understand that due to construction, a tube hybrid she brings all the best of both the kaiser and the york.
Also buy one for you, I had the pleasure of having the first marketed Tuono, I recommend!

I played both at the NAMM show. For me, the Bruckner was more broad and mellow sounding, like a Miraphone 1291/2/3. It's pretty much a 1291 with a rotory valve set. In contrast, the Tuono sound was more direct and similar to the Thor, if you ever played one. My first few notes on the Tuono sounded "powerful" and it was very easy to play.

I think if you want to make your sound easily heard through the ensemble sound, the Tuono would be better. The Bruckner is nice if you want to set a broad base for the ensemble. I initially preferred the Tuono because it sounded great by itself, but I'm not sure if it fits for my idea for a sound in an ensemble setting. Intonation wise, both sounded good in a convention hall, but I can't tell you more than that.

What the heck is the "south central US"?

Well, clearly. Just dont think I've ever heard it called that before. Then again, I was 25 before I went to Tennessee and saw "mid-south."

Does anyone know when this tuba will go on sale?

I tried both briefly at the Frankfurt music fair. Both the Bruckner and Tuono were exceptional 5/4 rotary CC, but very difficult to compare because I did not try in the same acoustic setting (small trial rooms at Miraphone and in open hall at Meinl-Weston). Both seemed to have good intonation, nice tone across all registers, responded well and felt good to play.

I thought the Bruckner had a broader (more American?) tone, while the Tuono was a bit more direct (German?) sounding. I usually have a preference for the Meinl-Weston sound, over Miraphone, so tended to prefer the Tuono, but would ideally want to try both in similar setting and get feedback out front (using my H2 recorder/musical friend) if considering purchasing.

The Tuono felt slightly larger and its colourful tone sounds great under the bell, but from my experience of hearing Thor, wonder if it would project so well out into the hall? Of course it might sound rather like a smaller 197 Kaiser and project wonderfully?

These would no doubt be the two models at the top of my list to check out if I was looking for a new CC.

MW Tuono...

I played a Bruckner for quite a while the other day at the Miraphone factory. It's OUTSTANDING!! A really great tuba... probably on par with a Hirsbrunner H2. Large, but not too large, but very very tight and clear (which is what I liked) It would probably be a great audition horn, probably a great recording horn too.

If I had a need for that axe, I would have bought it on the spot. I really loved it!
