I know anything is possible  but has anyone tried making a 5 valve db euph with a euph body, few euph valve sections, parts, and an alto horn?

The photos below here show a sample, which hardly was originally a double belled euph. The rotor shift valve is the factor making me suspicious. I remember having seen a homemade sample, where the straight second bell came from a bass trombone. This would not be far from your idea, as the original Boosey & Hawkes Sovereign Eb alto horn was designed around two given factors: a 0.468" trumpet valve block and the Sovereign bass trombone bell.

This would be tough for a lay person to make, especially if you have to bend your own parts.

It isn't impossible. It will just be very difficult. Do you have any candidates for Euph surgery?

No, it's just an idea that's been in my head for a while and wondered if anyone else had done it.

I wouldn't think it too difficult to combine a euphonium and something of a 'thinner' timbre like a 'trombonium' or alto horn. One catch might be the fact that the 'change valve'... in this case the 5th valve is only a two-way valve as opposed to a three-way valve like a conventional piston valve. I suppose one could block the unused port.

Actually, if one were very clever in the wrap design, you could just put a cork in it to keep unwanted gunk from the valve and have the same cork act as the at-rest stop for the small bell.

Trombonium + Euphonium = Double Bell!
