As you know, recently I purchase a Bruckner and have really been enjoying playing it. I asked Markus to build me a new 5th pipe as I felt that the 'fold' may be affecting the 5th valve notes. The enclosed photo is of the new pipe. I'll let you know IF there is any diff.

I love the way these play, and I am very interested in hearing your opinion on the different 5th wraps.

Neat! I always wondered about the fold over and if it has any effect. Heh, I guess there's little chance that an unfolded long (23) fifth slide could ever fit? :)

I worked along side an old acoustics scientist for several years. I once asked him how much each bend effected how sound well sound was transmitted through a tube. He contended that the answer was "not much". Now... I've always somewhat equated how sound travels through as being similar to how gasses and liquids are transmitted through pipes. The scientist always contended that there was no similarity whatsoever between sound waves and solids. I've finally decided to accept what he said as true.

However... I am still of the opinion that the number of twists and turns in tubing tubing does make a different. From personal experiments I've found that 'less is better'.

Based upon about 2 hours of playing, the low, 5th valved, notes: Gb, F, Eb, D, & Db, DEFINITELY play a little more open. When doing lip slurs with these fingerings: 23&5, 4&5, 34&5, 234&5 & 1234&5, the 5th valve notes play with a little less resistance, and center with a tad more clarity. More later ......

Does the straigh fifth-valve slide obstruct your access to the first-valve slide?
