Last week I got my BBb cimbasso that Tim Sullivan (timswisstuba) made for me: A+ for Tim!

The bell is from an Olds baritone and the valve section is from an older s-linkage Miraphone (or Mirafone) 18(4-6). With its large graduated bore the horn plays real open in all registers. Nice intonation and a fat low register which'll sonically destroy even the largest of kidney stones.

To top it off, Tim made a super sturdy stand out of a modern cymbal stand w/an extra specially made...., eh, thingy which holds the bottom part of the cimbasso. Very simple and elegant.

I've used this horn in rehearsals and performances almost everyday since I received it last friday and it hasn't let me down yet. And yes, everyone who's heard it says that it sounds like a big (contra-) bass trombone.

OK, OK. Got it. Unfortunately, being a mac owner AND dumb I never figured out a way of posting pictures (let alone reducing the pixels!).

Thanks Wilco. In German, einfach die hammer literally means that's the hammer. The Germans use that to say something is amazing.

As far as 'bejesus'..... I don't think there is a word for it, closest I think is 'tering'...

as in:
*scared the bejuses out of me* *schrok me de tering*

and, when 50 timbasso's are used at once: "teringherrie"

The Dutch term for the fff-effect of this instrument could be de dijkdoorbraak.

Had this one been a slide contrabass trombone, the Bavarian term had been Zugspitze.

Well, I can imagine some tubists being offended by this, but I can also imagine some tubists being offended by a cimbasso. Nevertheless, Tim's horn is not only good for removing calculus from your teeth, it is also a sweet romancer in in the high range at ppp. (I didn't tell Tim that the cimbasso he made could also play ppp; otherwise he might have charged me extra!)
