I actually contacted Dr. Funderburk sometime last year regarding these videos. Here's what he had to say, for those interested:

I think it was 1988 or 1989 that we did the original taping. We used a Meinl Weston model 30 that the school owned for the demonstrations. It was coated in a film of soap to help keep down the reflections for the cameras. The video was produced in cooperation with the Radio/TV department and served as the final masters project for 5 Radio/TV graduate students. They spent 300 hours editing the various closeups into the final video.

The videos are pretty useful for those of us with rotary valve tubas. I still don't feel comfortable with some of the stuff he details, though (muriatic acid, blowtorch ) and take my horn to a tech.
