MM Tubas... Are they any good?

I am currently looking into buying a CC tuba but have a budget of about $2,700. I am looking into the Schiller American Heritage 5 valve rotary CC tuba (http://www.jimlaabsmusic.com/band-orche ... _4162.html" target="_blank) and the MM-TU 1000 5 valve CC tuba. (http://www.tubamm.com/site/prods-tubes.htm" target="_blank) I am skeptical about buying a chinese horn but that's all I can find in my price range. I don't need a professional tuba but definately don't want to buy a bad horn.

I am very impressed by the MM tuba and will probably try that one first. Has anyone had any experiances with either horn, or manufacturer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about MM, but for 2700, you have options. There is a St. Pete 5 valve CC and a Holton CC at TE and the JZ's at BBC are supposed to be good (if they arent the same tuba)

BTW, I believe that most of these other dealers also sell Jinbao tubas to include M&M. If I am wrong please let me know.

I have personal experience with the miraphone 1291 copy and the 6 valve F tuba as previously stated they are all jin bao instrument company in china. The fit and finish keeps getting better based on the few we have seen over the past year. Yes they are good to answer your Question bluntly the1291 Bb or the miraphone 186 CC copy is the way to go. Both play extremely well in tune and a work horses in the current tuba world

Check out Dan Schultz's website- he did a really good review and comparison on a 1291 and the clone. Worth a look if you haven't already seen it!

PM me. maybe we can work something out with my 'like new' St. Pete CC. It is a nice horn for the money. It is Russian made. Comes with a rather nice Cronkhite gig bag.
