I purchased a PT-50L from Custom a couple of weeks back.

After purchasing a used Gronitz PCK, I took the tuba to my former teacher's house to play around with a few different mouthpieces. We tried several 50s, my 88+, a 50+, the Dillon M1C, PT-44, a Dillon Chris Olka, a GW original Baer CC, and a few others.

We were both in agreement that the tuba sounded best with a 50L. The sound had a greater core to it, and seemed to respond much better than with any of the other mouthpieces, save the PT-44, which resulted in a fine sound also.

I had tried a PT-50 several years ago, and just couldn't get comfortable with it. I stuck with the 88+.

After playing on the 50L for a couple of weeks, I can say that I am really pleased with the way it plays. The mouthpiece helps to create a low register that has a focused sound with a great core. A keeper, for sure.

I have two PT-50L's, and I have to say that these mouthpieces serve their purposes as powerful low-range mouthpieces, similar to the Perantucci mega-tone mouthpieces, but for conventional playing. I highly reccomend this mouthpiece. :tuba:
