What's the general consensus on what year/age makes a horn vintage?

I think it depends on the company. I always thought Mirafone tubas from the 60s/70s were vintage. When I think of Conn/Martin/etc., I think turn-of-the-century as vintage. I don't know if this answers anything, but there's my input...

With rotary valves S-links smell oldish.

With piston tubas bell front point backwards in time.

Vintage means dented. (at least it does, on E-bay!!!)

Vintage as a term referring to musical instruments is mostly meaningless. The comment about people using vintage as a euphemism for old is dead on accurate.

Which would you rather buy?

Vintage miraphone tuba

(I guess it depends on the price...)

They are all words (and i strongly dislike english class )
