Simichrome and chrome spray paint

This is actually 2 items, but are sort of related. I have been using simichrome for a long time on some raw brass instruments with really good results, much better than brasso ever could. A buddy of mine had a Conn silver sousaphone bell that has maybe 50% of the finish left, so we decided the fininsh can't be damaged and tried the simichrome on it. So far the results have been very promising. Has anyone else ever tried it on a silver horn? Now my buddy is wanting to take steel wool to the bell and then hit it with chrome spray paint. Will this even stick and will the playing be affected? The bell is still useable, although quite ugly. I would hate to see him ruin it with this experiment. Thanks.
