Finland

Greetings,

I have a rather geographically specific question... I don't really know where else to write (so maybe someone else has a good idea too..)

I've been invited to play at a friend's wedding in Tampere, Finland. The family really wants me to play, but I have already booked my flights (with different airlines and layovers/baggage rules, etc.. one of the sites is even in Finnish..) and am not sure how I can get an instrument over there safely.

I wonder if there is someone who knows where I could borrow or rent a horn from July 1-3 (i could give it back also in the evening of the 2nd.. I need it that saturday morning) Preferrably F or C, though it doesn't really matter. The family is willing to pay. Message me if you have any ideas.

Thanks a lot!

I have no affiliations with Finland and never was there. In musical contexts I have met Finns. I can understand Finns speaking Swedish, which is taught in their schools, but they cannot understand me speaking Danish. My answering more reflects what I would do, if I were in your situation. It is about getting the right local connections.

Google took me here:

http://www.tampere.fi/english/cultureandmuseums.html

There is a mail address for their department of cultural affairs, where I would ask for contacts to local bands.

The town has a 97 piece orchestra, which is more than regional orchestras have in my country. There is no direct contact information to their tubist, but you might go via their Staff & Stage manager, whos mail can be deduced from this page:

Ryanair fly to Tampere, don't they?

If so, buy a seat for your tuba, it's quite cheap.

I know someone who lives about 200km from Tampere (even further away than Jyväskylä) .... I doubt that is much help - it's over 3 hours drive.

thanks all for your help, the last few days have been really crazy and I've been away from the computer. I'm always amazed at how international this forum is. I've got a couple of channels to follow now.. thanks so much!

Hi !

I am actually in Finland. I am unfortunately not here in the beginning of July (I would have let you one of my horn...). But I know a lot of tuba players there now !

You can contact me by MP, and we could arrange something.

Best wishes
