I have had this link in the bookmarks a good while, but seems pretty comprehensive and current.

Isn’t there a fear from some makers that exact profile scans could be scanned back into some CAM/CAD systems allowing for very easy copying of more or less original designs?

One maker of horn mouthpieces via the horn lists offered access to drawings of his rim profiles. Only one had to do an allegedly free buy of the access. And an American horn player saw the system charge him for shipping to some Asian country for something only available on his computer screen.

I would have wanted that information, but I did not want giving up card or other information just to watch specs on potential buys.

As a collector I sometimes find interesting items, where one has to call for information on the price. I don’t do that after a rotten experience. A certain instrument might have my interest at a given price point. I asked for the price and was told it would cost a certain sum, which was 3 or 4 times more than what I would pay. So I just gave up on the acquisition. Two days later the seller sent me a harshly worded mail asking when my money would arrive. He just could have put the price up in the ad.

I had no problems at all getting the horn spec sheet (or the tuba one for that matter. Same maker, same procedure)
No credit card details necessary, no fees, nothing. I used the Paypal option, no questions were asked).
The shipping charge was probably some weird glitch in the Yahoo shop.
